Terry Fielding (above) and Fred Dyer formed a duo in Sydney in the late 1960s and sang together for a couple of months before going into TV competitions like New Faces in the early 1970s. They won the grand final and were signed to the Spin label. Their first release ''The Whale'' was produced by ex Nomads frontman Gus McNeil. The single charted in most capital cities, #7 in Adelaide, #21 in Brisbane and #5 in Sydney. Their follow up ''The Ghost'' didn't fare as well but the B side ''Big White Horse'' won a Bandstand songwriters award. A compilation CD of all their songs was released in the early 90s on the EMI label.

Nice blurb guys, thanks for the memories
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you Terry. You wouldn't have a pic of you and Fred that I can upload? Cheers Kimbo
DeleteIs Fred the same Fred Dyer who wrote the top 40 research book? If so, Is he still alive?
DeleteThe Fred Dyer who wrote Top 40 Research was the same Fred Dyer who ran Fred's Sound Bar in Merrylands N.S.W. (which I frequented several times a week). I also want to know if he was part of Fielding & Dyer.
DeleteHe also ran Fred's Disk and Tape in Seven Hills.
