THE PYRAMIDIACS

The Pyramidiacs formed in the late 1980s with Eddie Owen on guitar, Phil Byrne on vocals and guitar, Mick Baty on drums, and Mick’s brother Steve on bass. Steve soon left and was replaced by Kendall James. After a few party gigs, Baty stepped away and Luke Owen took over on drums. Following a brief hiatus, the band reassembled with Bob Susnjara on bass and Baty returning. Hailing from the Sydney suburb of Fairfield, NSW, they drew inspiration from the Replacements, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, and Matthew Sweet. In 1990, they entered a competition at Eddie’s university, winning first prize and using the funds to record their single ''Can’t Keep a Hold of You'', released on Zero Hour. The track performed well, reaching #11 on the alternative charts. Not long after, Byrne left and was replaced by guitarist Mick “Funter” O’Regan. The next year, their album 'All You Want' came out through Pink Flamingo Records, ahead of their 1995 European tour.

  2. i reckon Luke Owen’s drumming helped push these guys up a notch and into a band to be taken more seriously. They were ‘on the street’ magazines’ band of the week around that time…..
