FATTY LUMPKIN

Fatty Lumpkin was formed in Perth at the end of 1971 with John Worrall on vocals (ex-Bakery), John Meyer on guitar, Roy Daniel on bass and Al Kash on drums (ex-Blackfeather). They began gigging at Uncle Sam's in Subiaco. The original lineup only lasted a couple of months and then typically, the group went through many lineup changes during their tenure. In March 1973 they supported The Rolling Stones at the WACA in Perth. The band was one of the hottest in Perth and gigged regularly at The Court Hotel, Cleo's Hotel, The Sandgroper and The Embassy Ballroom.

Fatty Lumpkin issued four singles over their four-year career; the first two ''Don't Knock The Boogie / Got To Get Back T' Nellie'' in 1973 and ''Millionaire / The Man Who Owns The Sea'' in 1974 were issued on Martin Clarke's Clarion label, the latter two were on Festival. The band split in 1977. Ian McFarlane describes the singles as balancing "jazzy hard rock with lofty, flute-led progressive ballads (somewhere between Jethro Tull and Focus) replete with quasi-Santanaesque lead guitar from Meyer". Rex Bullen died in 1983. Roy Daniel and John Meyer died in 2020. John Worrall died in 2022. Phil Pruiti died in 2024.
