RICHARD WRIGHT AND THE VIKINGS

Brisbane band formed in the early 60s. Bob Blight and Robin Werda had been in local Sandgate band The Sonics before joining. Their only single release was ''Hey Baby / Do You See Maria'' released on HMV in 1965. When they disbanded in 1966, Richard Wright formed the Richard Wright Group with John Jones (ex-Missing Links), Garry McDonald, Phil Cogan and Dave 'The Bloke' Ovenden (all ex-members of Newcastle band The Fiesta Men). Harry Hambleton died of cancer in 2012.

  1. Saw this band live in the 60s and loved them. Are any of the original members still alive?

    1. Robin Werda (they got his name wrong for some reason - it's Robin not Robert), Robert Blight and Gary McDonald are all still alive.

Until recently they have all three been active in their local Brisbane tribute band called 'The Sonics'. They still are, except for Robert Blight who recently had to withdraw due to back problems unfortunately.

I can't quite speak for the other members, though.
