The band's first album, self-titled 'Bluestone', was released to excellent reviews in 1974 and helped to cement the band as a major force in Australian country music. The single from the album, "Wind and Rain", was a hit across Australia. The band performed regularly on Australian television (Hey, Hey It's Saturday, The Daryl Somers Show, Shirl's Neighbourhood and Countdown) and was invited to support a number of international acts including Cat Stevens, Dolly Parton and America on their Australian tours.
Terry Dean then formed the successful duo Dean & Carruthers with Garry Carruthers in the mid 80s and they continued right up to the end of 2023. During this time Terry also established Terry Dean's Guitars selling some of the world's finest acoustic instruments. The duo's pub residencies during the 80s and 90s have become legendary throughout Melbourne, particularly the packed-out New Boundary Hotel which ran every Saturday night from 1985-1994. Thier musical skills also kept the pair in demand for recording sessions and live instrumental/vocal backing for many touring artists at some of this country's biggest music festivals such as Port Fairy; Byron Bay; Tamworth and Gympie.

Terry continued his career in the 70's after forming one of Australia's pioneering country rock bands Bluestone, best known for their excellent debut Single, the Brian Cadd produced Wind and Rain, on the Bootleg label, The band went on to record a best selling album for Bootleg & a string of singles, with another flurry of activity in the early 80's including a 2nd album and singles for Avenue records. Terry later became half of the very popular duo Dean and Carruthers (with Dean Carruthers) who played around Melbourne and interstate for many years & until a recent health scare, was still performing until earlier this year. Not sure of Terry's current state of health
ReplyDeleteThanks for that
DeleteYou're welcome Kim..hopefully you'll use it as his 50+ year career in the music industry, especially one as successful as Terry's, deserves more than just a few lines :-)
ReplyDeleteKym this particular page on Terry Dean seems to have a virus & has been sending me emails with updated comments but each one is spam. I've now blocked comments as even if I only one post every few weeks, it's bloody annoying
ReplyDeleteI saw them play last night at the Arcobar in Moorabbin. Brilliant as always. The duo retires at the end of the year. Last shows doing the rounds now
