TThe band’s debut album, the self-titled 'Bluestone', came out in 1974 to rave reviews, establishing them as a major presence in Australian country music. Its single, ''Wind and Rain'', became a hit across the country. They were frequent performers on Australian television shows like Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, The Daryl Somers Show, Shirl’s Neighbourhood, and Countdown, and even scored spots supporting international stars such as Cat Stevens, Dolly Parton, and America during their Australian tours.
In the mid-80s, Terry Dean teamed up with Garry Carruthers to form the successful duo Dean & Carruthers, performing together right up until the end of 2023. During this time, Terry also launched Terry Dean's Guitars, offering some of the world’s finest acoustic instruments. Their pub residencies in the 80s and 90s became legendary across Melbourne, especially the packed Saturday nights at the New Boundary Hotel from 1985 to 1994. Their musical talent kept them in high demand for recording sessions and as live instrumental and vocal backing for many touring artists at some of Australia’s biggest music festivals, including Port Fairy, Byron Bay, Tamworth, and Gympie.

Terry continued his career in the 70's after forming one of Australia's pioneering country rock bands Bluestone, best known for their excellent debut Single, the Brian Cadd produced Wind and Rain, on the Bootleg label, The band went on to record a best selling album for Bootleg & a string of singles, with another flurry of activity in the early 80's including a 2nd album and singles for Avenue records. Terry later became half of the very popular duo Dean and Carruthers (with Dean Carruthers) who played around Melbourne and interstate for many years & until a recent health scare, was still performing until earlier this year. Not sure of Terry's current state of health
ReplyDeleteThanks for that
DeleteYou're welcome Kim..hopefully you'll use it as his 50+ year career in the music industry, especially one as successful as Terry's, deserves more than just a few lines :-)
ReplyDeleteKym this particular page on Terry Dean seems to have a virus & has been sending me emails with updated comments but each one is spam. I've now blocked comments as even if I only one post every few weeks, it's bloody annoying
ReplyDeleteI saw them play last night at the Arcobar in Moorabbin. Brilliant as always. The duo retires at the end of the year. Last shows doing the rounds now
