CALIGULA

Caligula is a electro rock music band from Sydney, which briefly rose to fame during their 1990-1994 presence on the Australian music scene, combining elements of Australian retro-rock (a style made famous by The Hoodoo Gurus) and grunge with electronic-tinged production. They were played on both alternative and mainstream rock radio across Australia and had two ARIA-charting singles, ''Tears Of A Clown'' and ''Roundabout''. They released a number of EPs and singles and one full length album 'Rubenesque' (1994). They also had a song, "Wardrum", featured on the 1991 rooArt label 'Young Blood 3' compilation.

Caligula toured and supported Depeche Mode, Pop Will Eat Itself, Neds Atomic Dustbin, The Beastie Boys, Buzzcocks, Carter USM, Jesus Jones, Scatterbrain, Ride as well of many different Australian acts. They disbanded in 1994 following the departure of vocalist Ashley Rothschild and the members formed or joined other Sydney bands including Def FX, Primary and World Inc. The band reformed in 2017 and started recording and releasing new material in 2021. Three new singles have been released to critical acclaim and the band has fast become a popular touring act again, sharing festival stages with the cream of the crop of success 90’s Aussie bands.
