A powerpop band, The Barbarellas were signed to Sydney label Citadel records in early 1990, who put out all their releases, starting with the debut ''Dying Inside / Forget About You''. The Barbarellas' brand of punchy power pop/rock was indelibly stamped on the local Sydney music scene with the release of the 'Fringe' EP. The band enjoyed high rotation on Triple J with the track "Depression" and as a result, the record peaked at #2 on the ARIA Independent Charts. Exposure on a national level on Triple J and Rage allowed the band to tour in and out of Sydney extensively with bands such as The Clouds, Ratcat, The Falling Joys, Died Pretty, All, The Celibate Rifles, and The Beasts of Bourbon. The 'Quit Skylarking' EP followed in 1991. The album 'Slumber', a retrospective of the band's Citadel releases, was released on CD in 1992. By the end of 1992 the band had split.
