At 16 Michael Turner joined his first band in North Queensland called Michael and the Mustangs playing covers at dances. He left for Brisbane in 1969 with his band Force V playing covers but the music was more blues and powerhouse rock. Unfortunately, it folded shortly after. Turner joined Brisbane trio Session with John Redzig on bass, Wayne Price on drums and John Taylor on guitar. The band were playing heavy rock favourites from the likes Hendrix and Zeppelin at all the top venues around town. They also played at the 4IP Pop Festival.
Turner moved to Melbourne in 1970 and formed Session (Mark 2) with drummer Paul Olsen, guitarist Bill Sclater and Phil Stone on bass continuing the heavy rock mould. They were signed to Havoc records releasing a single ''Patterns Of My Life / Just Around Midnight''. Both songs are available on the 2008 compilation album 'The Complete Havoc Singles: 1971-1973'. (Aztec Music). The band supported overseas act Frijid Pink on the Brisbane leg of their Australian tour. Michael Turner in Session was the opening band at the Sunbury Rock festival and toured other capital cities around the country. In 1972 Turner won Australian best vocalist in an event called Hoadley's National Battle of the Sounds. In 1973 the band called it quits and Turner moved back to Brisbane. In 2022 American label Ancient Grease released 'Live On GTK - August 1971'. Paul Olsen and Bill Sclater have both since died.
