CANDY AND MANDY

Candy and Mandy were very popular in the late 50s early 60s. Their real names were Daphne Kerr-Driscoll (Candy) and Lillian Safargy (Mandy). Both were ex models. Originally founded by Lee Gordon, they were very popular on his ‘Big Shows’. Firstly, known as The Lee sisters, Johnny O’Keefe coached them and then changed their names to Candy and Mandy. Their first Lee Gordon Big Show was the Johnnie Ray Show in 1959. Their first television appearance was on O'Keefe's Six O'clock Rock followed by Bandstand, Shower Of Stars, Bobby Limb's Late Show and Bert Newton's Swallow Show. They supported Ricky Nelson on his tour in 1960.  They recorded on Rex Records.

  2. "Willie Boy" was the side of the Rex single which got air play, although the record company originally issued it as the b-side. The Joy Boys provided the backing.
