Formed in South Australia in the mid-60s, they were a staple of Adelaide's inner-city basements and cellars, playing R&B and popular hits of the day. In 1966, they recorded their only single on the Leedon label, a cover of Willie Dixon’s ''I Just Want to Make Love to You.'' A popular band of the era, they moved to Melbourne in 1967 but didn’t last much longer. Originally managed by Melbourne entrepreneur Eddie Young, the band is featured on the Big Beat Cellar CD compilation series (Vols. 1 to 3) released on Nickoff Records. Vocalist David Harrison died in 1978, Brian Coghlan in 2023, and Mick Patterson in 2024.

Hi Carol
ReplyDeleteCan you send the photos to kimchallands@hotmail.com
Blue Rags were great at Elizabeth at the Octagon. They would always start with "I am a road runner" Good band if you did not see them you missed out on some great sounds and talent.
ReplyDeleteGreat blues band. Saw them at the Catcher in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. David sang a fabulous song called Shadows and first time I saw the strings of a guitar run up and down side of the drums to give a wailing sound.
