Sydney band previously known as Barrington Davis and the Power Pact was renamed as Mecca in 1968. The band featured guitarist Dennis Wilson (no relation to Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys) and bassist Bob Daisley. In 1969, Barrington Davis left for the UK and Mecca continued as a trio. As a three-piece the band began playing heavier music, including some of Dennis's originals. They were later joined by kiwi Clive Coulson on vocals. Mecca's only single release "Black Sally" became an underground hit and was covered by Human Instinct on their 'Stoned Guitar' album. Mecca disbanded in mid-1970 and Daisley and Wilson approached Dannie Davidson and Tim Gaze to form a new band, Kahvas Jute.
