From there, gigs in Canada led to a successful trip to Japan, but it was in Las Vegas, over five years, that she truly honed her craft. Performing with legends like Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis Jr., Lou Rawls, and Robert Goulet, she cemented her reputation as a versatile singer, performer, and actress. In the early 70s, a trip to Australia opened the door to a successful tour across Southeast Asia. The demand was so great that she performed in Indonesia, Taiwan, Bangkok, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, leaving a trail of rave reviews everywhere she went. Hong Kong embraced her warmly, leading to a weekly TV show, Just Delilah, along with modeling gigs and a film role. Her wish to return to her favorite country, Australia, came true when she starred in the stage production of The Wiz. Around then, she decided to settle in Sydney, signing with Robie Porter and releasing singles on his label, including her version of ''My Guy'', which was also released in New Zealand.
Tall, slim, and effortlessly captivating, she was a regular presence on major national TV shows like Bert Newton's Good Morning Australia, Dave Allen's Live Across Australia, and many more. With her distinctive voice, engaging personality, and versatile talent, she captivated audiences everywhere. Delilah lit up the disco scene, securing her place on the club circuit and even earning the title of Queen of Disco. In 1979, she wowed crowds in Tokyo at the World Popular Song Festival with a stunning performance of "Here and Now," winning both the Most Outstanding Performance Award and the Most Attractive Female Performer Award.
From then until her passing, Delilah paid her dues and proved herself worthy of recognition from far and wide. Her professionalism, remarkable voice, and genuine talent consistently impressed audiences everywhere. Her stage presence echoed the style of the greats, which is why in 1990 John Singleton, David Hollins, and Mike Gordon chose her for their five-million-dollar advertising campaign for Campbell’s Cash and Carry. Once again, it was Delilah’s wit and humor that added that special touch. The campaign’s success only boosted her value as an asset to any organization fortunate enough to tap into her diverse talents. Delilah died in 2018.

She often worked for the agent Mauri Cameron and he would hire me to supply sound and also mix for her. She had a terrific three piece band at the time and was always professional and fun to work for. RIP Delilah.
ReplyDeleteMet her & sat at her table with some of her friends at a pub near the SCG re Sydney cricket ground. She loved characters. Had a few beers & sang a Sinatra song was always welcome at her table after that. God Bless her in heaven.
ReplyDeleteOne of my great memories of Delilah was taking her to see Carmen at the Sydney Opera House.
