BACKY SKANK

For those who came in late, Backy Skank have been faces in the Australian music scene for 20 years demonstrating that greatness is not constrained by calendars and clocks. Since their impressive debut release “Introducing Backy Skank” in 1998 and highly acclaimed ‘Suited and Booted’ long player in 2003 they continue to impress audiences with their live shows and studio recordings. Backy Skank launched their their second album 'The Biz!' in 2010.

They are the kind of outfit that makes you take notice for sheer professionalism, musicality and dedication – nothing mediocre about this band. Rhythm, melody, mood, precision, humour, outstanding live shows, delusions of grandeur and shameless self-congratulation, it’s all there. In an industry that loves to dictate the terms Backy Skank have remained true to themselves and not lost focus on their mission to continue the development of the Australian ska scene. They are respected by countless bands around the country who owe them a debt of gratitude for their support and mentoring.

Such is their global reputation that a plethora of renowned acts from the international ska stable are queuing up to let them support them, such as The Special Beat, The English Beat, The Specials’ Neville Staple, Pauline Black from The Selecter, Bad Manners and Bluekilla. Backy Skank recordings are featured on over 25 ska compilations all over the world and elsewhere, in Australia, UK, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, America and Mexico.
