David Holmes is a songwriter, blessed with a baritone voice. His songs are all about Melbourne, the city that he has called home for most of his life, although he has travelled and performed interstate and overseas for many years. From his beginnings as 1970s 'Best New Talent 'on Bandstand, David led a very public life. After his early critical acclaim for his song "Denver Idleman” (backed by The Strangers) which went to #8 on the Melbourne charts, he disappeared from the public eye. But we hadn't seen the last of him. After 10 years out of the limelight he was asked to join Four Chairs No Waiting, a group that later evolved into The Scared Weird Little Guys. With his band Urban Sprawl he has supported Max Merritt and John Schumann (Redgum). His current band, the Dave Holmes Gang includes Dave Adam (Ross Hannaford band), Bryan Derrick and many other special guests.
