THE SECT

The Sect was originally formed in Queensland in 1966 under the name The In Sect with Rodney Harris and Tyrone Sakrzewski on guitars, vocalist Carle King, Robin Muirhead on bass and Paul Doo on drums. Later on, the band featured John Brownrigg (ex-The Feelgoods) and Peter Moscos later of Moscos and Stone fame. They won the Queensland Battle of the Sounds and moved to Melbourne in 1969 to record, with the encouragement of The Master’s Apprentices. ''Lonely Road / I Can't Stand To Be Alone'' was their debut single followed by ''St.John's Wood / Country Style'' both penned by Moscos and both released on the Columbia imprint. The band supported The Four Tops on their tour of Australia. They broke up in 1970. Peter Moscos died in 2003 of cancer in Sydney.

  1. Playing guitar standing on the lowest block on the right in the picture you have posted,is Rodney Harris. He is an original member starting as The In-Sect & then later becoming The Sect.
He recorded on their albums & can be seen performing their songs on some T.V. Shows.
His family lived in Holland Park in Brisbane at the time of their success ( I went to primary school with his littlest sister Debbie Harris).
If anyone has more information on Rodney & his siblings i would love to find out what has become of them.

    2. Rod (lead guitar) is my uncle, Robin Muirhead (bass) is my father. Sadly Debbie passed away in 2014. The rest of the sisters are alive and well. Rod lives in Nimbin these days.
