THE COURTMEN

Formed in Sydney during the heady days of the early 1960s rock ’n’ roll boom, The Courtmen were a five-piece band who found themselves sharing the stage with some of the era’s best-known performers. A highlight came in 1963 when they played before 40,000 people at the 2UW Spectacular alongside The Bee Gees, Col Joye, Judy Stone and Johnny Rebb.

In March 1964, established singer and recording star Warren Williams came aboard as lead vocalist, with The Courtmen backing him on ''It’s Party Time / Great Balls of Fire''. Williams later moved on to pursue a career in cabaret, but The Courtmen continued, releasing two singles for Leedon: ''I’ve Got to Let You Go / Sticks and Stones'' in 1965 and ''Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart / Sea Cruise'' in 1966. Barry Shepherd has since died.
