Olympic Sideburns formed in 1982 was an ever-evolving shockabilly outfit that had featured Spencer P. Jones (later in The Johnnys, The Beasts of Bourbon). The Olympic Sideburns were far from the typical 80's indie band wanting to revive 60's garage rock. Although they changed members on a permanent basis, they were an explosive band rocking in the weirdest way and making their mark clearly. Their sound was energetic, loud, dirty, groovy, with distinct vocals. This was Aussie rock at its very finest. The Olympic Sideburns was a collection of 1980s alternative artists. They released their first EP 'Drunkyard' which contained four tracks on the Strine label in 1983. This was followed by the single ''13th Floor'' in 1984.
Their first album 'The Olympic Sideburns' was released in 1985 on Major Records. The lineup for the recording was Paul Bryant (bass), Philip Brophy (drums), George Spencer (guitar), Maurice Frawley (guitar) and Jimmy Williams (organ). The album was also released in France and the USA. A second album 'Dixie Truck Stop!' followed in 1987. The lineup was Jex Byron (vocals), Maurice Frawley (guitar), George Spencer (guitar), Paul Bryant (bass) and Cal McAlpine (drums). They disbanded by end of 1988. Maurice Frawley died in 2009 of liver cancer, at Rochester Hospital.
