EMMA HANNAH

Emma Hannah was born in 1944 in the NSW country town of Young. Emma has had a very busy career in the music industry from her teenage years. She became very involved in the flourishing folk movement after early classical training. She debuted at the Pigalle in Parramatta before scoring a residency at the Folk Attick in Kings Cross. She played there for 18 months alongside Trevor Lucas, Paul Brand and Irish blues harmonica player O'Shane Duckham. She was first heard on record in 1963 when she dueted with Paul Brand on the EP 'Folk Attick'.

Appearing on a variety of TV shows she made regular appearances on Gary Shearston’s ‘Just Folk’ TV Show during the mid 60s, along with concert performances across a wide area of the eastern states of Australia. Then in the early 1970s along with Ricky & Tammy she became a regular on John Williamson’s popular ‘Travelllin’ Out West’ TV series, further enhancing her national profile with personal concert appearances and regular club spots.

Later on, she made many appearances on television, including ‘Reg Lindsay’s Country Homestead’.In 1975 she signed a recording contract with Wizard Records. Her first single was “Give a Hand, Take a Hand”. The following year her second single “Waiting For The Rain” was released. This single charted well in most states which lead to appearances on the television shows The Don Lane Show and The Ernie Sigley Show. The album 'Be a Lady in the Daytime' was released in 1975.

Emma has recorded three solo albums and her single 'Angel of The Morning' won her a national award for Best Country Record of the Year. Her last album, 'Wayfaring Stranger' recorded in 2006, is a wonderful example of her vocal expertise. The simple acoustic country/folk style of her performance shows that the influence of those genres is ingrained, but with every song it’s the power and soul of the voice and the engaging personality that continues to delight audiences wherever she goes.
