FATTY LUMPKIN

Fatty Lumpkin formed in Perth in late 1971 with John Worrall on vocals (ex-Bakery), John Meyer on guitar, Roy Daniel on bass, and Al Kash on drums (ex-Blackfeather). They started out playing at Uncle Sam’s in Subiaco, but the original lineup only lasted a couple of months before the band began its run of frequent member changes. In March 1973, they opened for The Rolling Stones at the WACA in Perth. Known as one of the hottest bands in the city, they regularly played venues like The Court Hotel, Cleo’s Hotel, The Sandgroper, and The Embassy Ballroom.

Over their four-year career, they released four singles — the first two, ''Don’t Knock The Boogie / Got To Get Back T’ Nellie'' (1973) and ''Millionaire / The Man Who Owns The Sea'' (1974), came out on Martin Clarke’s Clarion label, while the final two were on Festival. The band broke up in 1977. Ian McFarlane described their music ''as a blend of jazzy hard rock and flute-led progressive ballads, somewhere between Jethro Tull and Focus, with Santana-esque lead guitar from Meyer''. Rex Bullen died in 1983, Roy Daniel and John Meyer in 2020, John Worrall in 2022, and Phil Pruiti in 2024.
