The Rondells (previously named, the Lincolns and then the Silhouettes) were one of the more notable bands on the Australian music scene of the mid-1960's, if only for the fact that most of their members went on to serious careers in music. The initial formation was Dennis Tucker on bass, John Bromell on drums, Ron Gilbee on rhythm guitar and Bernie O'Brien on lead guitar. Bromell was sonn replaced by Dennis Collins. They first showed up in an important way on record backing Bobby & Laurie on "I Belong To You, " before getting signed themselves to the Go!! label in 1965.
Gilbee left the band due to work commitments being replaced by John Sullivan and they cut a pair of singles and an EP. The band started touring and travelled all around Victoria and NSW. On tour with the band was Terry Dean, Billy Adams and MPD Ltd. On one tour they picked up a young Sydney band, called the Easybeats, as an additional act on the show. A major shakeup in the lineup occurred when they returned. Denis Tucker, Bernie O’Brien and Dennis Collins decided to leave the Rondells and form a new group called the Threedells. Roger Treble, Barry Rogers, Wayne Duncan and Gary Young were the replacements. The Rondells also backed other artists including Bobby Knight, Lynne Randell, Buddy England, Billy Adams and Bobby Shore. Dennis Tucker and Ron Gilbee would later turn up in Jigsaw, O'Brien in Saltbush and Duncan and Young would become the rhythm section in Daddy Cool. Barry Rogers died in 2009. Wayne Duncan died in 2016.
