THE THIN MEN

The Thin Men were a vocal group that formed in Melbourne in 1961 as the result of the merging of two groups, The Moontones and The Planetones. The lineup was Johnny Edwards (tenor), Tony Lee (bass), Ron Patrick (baritone) and Adrian Ussher (baritone). They signed to the W&G label and released ''Learning The Twist / I Can't Get You Out Of My Mind''. This was followed by ''A Little Bit Now'' which had some chart success. In 1962 baritone Johnny Florence replaced Adrian Ussher who went to become a very successful Music Director at Australia's largest Ad Agency. In 1963 they supported UK actor and singer Mark Wynter on his tour of Australia. The group then moved to HMV recording five singles. They were the resident group on Melbourne's TV show Sunnyside Up. They were used frequently as a backing group on records by other artists like Colin Cook, Bobby Bright and The Thunderbirds. Eventually moving to Sydney, they did club and TV appearances and backed international artists on concert tours. They briefly re-emerged on record in the 1970s with the LP ''The Thin Men On Earth'' and the single "Leah / All The Things You Are", both of which came out during 1974. Johnny Florence left the band and was replaced by Benny Ford before they recorded their last album 'Just For You' in 1978 on the Jam label.
