THE VINCE MALONEY SECT

Vince Melouney (born 18 August 1945, Sydney, Australia) is an Australian guitarist and singer-songwriter. When Vince and Tony Barber left Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs in 1965, they formed Vince and Tony's Two. Barber left the group to pursue a solo career and Vince, together with the other two members of the group, Jimmy Thompson on drums and John Shields on bass added Bill Taylor on rhythm guitar to form the Vince Maloney Sect. Their first single release in 1966 ''No Good Without You'' was a moderate hit, especially in the Melbourne where they appeared regularly on TV show Kommotion. This was followed by a four track EP. The final release was a solo single by Vince '' I Need Your Lovin' Tonight / Mystery Train'', produced by Nat Kipner. The Bee Gees sang backing vocals. When the Bee Gees called Melouney to England to become an official member, Brian Patterson (ex-The Bluebeats) joined the band, and they changed their name to The Sect. Zenith Records re-released all their songs on an EP in 2008.
