THE WEBB BROTHERS

The Webb Brothers had been performing, writing and recording country music for almost 50 years. The unique trio, featuring brothers Fabian (born 1930), Marius (born 1932) and Berard (born 1934), have won two Golden Guitar Awards, featured twice on the ABC documentary A Big Country, toured Australia and New Zealand multiple times, and were inducted into the Tamworth "Hands Of Fame" in 1978 and "Roll Of Renown" in 2004. The Webb Brothers’ auditioned for the Australian Amateur Hour in 1954 and their resulting win saw their music broadcast on radio station 4BK, followed by a recording contract with Rodeo Records. The brothers released many singles and albums from the 50s right up until the 80s. A few were released in NZ.

The cheeky trio had a big commercial hit in 1981 with a song called ''The Colonel Put The Lickin' In The Chicken But Who Put The 'Roo In The Stew'' which laughed at the big meat scandal in Australia when it discovered Australian roo meat had found its way into hamburger mince being exported to Australia. The single got to #29 on the national charts and it was also released in NZ.

They were also running a pioneering cattle property called Thornside – 30 kilometres west of Gympie - that in 1982 had been owned by the Webb family for 100 years."Our grandfather George settled on that block – the first block – back in 1882 and descendents have carried out cattle breeding on that same block ever since," he said. In 1982 the Webb Brothers wanted to stage a 100th birthday party for their Thornside property and to mark 25 years recording country music. This event would become the annual Gympie muster which has attracted all the major stars of Australian country.  Marius and Fabian Webb died in 2014.
