DARRYL STEWART

Singer Darryl Stewart started his career in the early 50s. He was a regular on Bobby Limb's TV show, The Sound Of Music during that time. In 1955 he recorded ''A Man Called Peter''. The song was released in Australia on one of Festival Records earliest 45s, cat # SP45-684. The flipside was "My Cathedral". The song reached # 1 in Sydney in the winter of 1955, a position it held for 3 weeks. In 1958 he appeared on US TV as one of the performers singing on the world-famous Ed Sullivan Show. Stewart spent some time in England appearing on several television shows and also working with Winifred Atwell's BBC TV show. Stewart was also known for singing Irish songs with organ accompaniment. The distinctive and dominant organ sound came from none other than Australia's King of the Theatre Organ, Wilbur Kentwell. Darryl Stewart's good looks once led to British sex bomb, Diana Dors, having an affair with him! In the 60s Stewart continued to release singles and EPs on the Festival label with ''I Watch The Surf'' his best-known song of this period. He was a regular on TV variety shows during the 60s and 70s.
