JOHN VINCENT

Disc Jockey John Vincent originally started in country radio at 2RE in Taree NSW before moving to Adelaide and 5AD sometime in the mid 60s. He recorded a couple of singles backed by popular local band The In-Sect: ''Ow Ya Goin' / We're Both Sorry Now'' (1967) and '' Madge's Charity Badges / Choko Brandy'' (1969). In the early 70s Vincent was poached by 5AK. In between fronting the "Ken Oath Orchestra", creating the concept of "Black Thunder" promo cars for radio stations and hosting wildly successful radio shows, John Vincent cut this 1971 ode to the then current Prime Minister. RCA Records commissioned the song with the lyrics written by Norman Hodge using the well-established Big Bad John format. Oddly enough the record was played heavily on one Adelaide station but was ignored elsewhere. After his stint in Adelaide, he moved east to commence work as the breakfast announcer at 2GB. John Vincent had been plagued with serious health problems for most of his life and he found the pace of radio affecting his wellbeing, eventually retiring from the airwaves in the 90s. He died in 2009.
