THE GINGERBREAD MEN (ADELAIDE)

The Gingerbread Men (not to be confused with Melbourne band Gingerbreadmen) was formed in Adelaide in 1965 by brothers Idris and Evan Jones, both very talented musicians who had already appeared on TV in Adelaide's Country and Western Hour as early as 1963. The band released two singles in 1965 ''Looking At You / Goodnight'' on the W&G label and ''Let The Little Girl Dance / Gently'' on Columbia. The band were popular on the local dance circuit and appeared on local TV. The group could have continued on and become a complete success, but Evan's career was interrupted by his conscription into military service (which resulted in him serving in the Vietnam War). Even so both brothers can credit themselves with going on in the industry long after the band had disbanded. Evan continued a solo career and worked as a children's television host, appearing on Here's Humphrey, C'mon Kids and Cartoon Connection. Idris joined The Mixtures who had a number 1# hit in Australia and England with ''The Pushbike Song''.
