The Franklin Dam or Gordon-below-Franklin Dam project was a proposed dam on the Gordon River in Tasmania that was never constructed. The movement that eventually led to the project's cancellation became one of the most significant environmental campaigns in Australian history. Folk rock singer Shane Howard from Goanna wrote "Let the Franklin Flow", which became an anthem for the campaign. It was performed by members of his band and members of Redgum under the pseudonym, Gordon Franklin and the Wilderness Ensemble. It was released as a single on the WEA label with a B-side, "Franklin River – World Heritage", written and recorded by former Greens leader Bob Brown. Recorded in February 1983, the song reached #12 nationally, #4 in Melbourne and #15 in Sydney.
