MARKEETA LITTLE WOLF

In the 1950s a native-American wrestler named Big Chief Little Wolf won over Australian audiences with his kind heart and memorable moves on the mat. Two decades later his daughter, Markeeta, won crowds over with her big voice and beautiful clothes.

Markeeta Little Wolf became a household name after she began touring the country and appearing regularly on TV in the early '70s. She was often seen on shows like New Faces and was a finalist on Showcase with Gordon Boyd. In 1975 she recorded an LP called 'Sunbird' that featured soulful readings of some big hits of the time like Van Morrison’s ''Wild Night'' alongside the title track that had been especially written for her by renowned composer Bruce Rowland.

Markeeta later moved to the US where she settled in Waitsburg, WA. Between 2007-2010 she served as its first female mayor. In 2011 she put together a stage show titled The Bitch Is Back that told her life story and featured some of her favourite songs.
