THE UNHEARD

Formed mid 1986 from the ashes of fellow Wollongong sixties psych punkers The Stayns, The Unheard's original lineup was vocalist and guitarist Gordon Johns and drummer Stephen O'Brien. They recorded "Don't Stand In My Sunshine" at Main Street Studios in Corrimal as a duo, with Gordon playing everything except Stephen's drums. Michael "Wilbur" Wilson was added soon after on bass as they rehearsed in his abode - the Masonic Hall in Smith Street Wollongong. Soon after, an advertisement was placed in local paper the Illawarra Mercury for a vocalist/organ player. Patrick Brownlee replied. After one audition at the Ukranian Club in Auburn Street, he was in.

The very first Unheard show was at the Wollongong Uni Band competition late 1986. They played ''Don't Stand In My Sunshine'' and some Sonics covers and they won. They lived up to their name by only ever releasing one three track single in 1988 on the Kavern 7 label. Over the course of the years the band went through many lineup changes. The band played regularly around Wollongong, Sydney and Melbourne. Belinda Deane died in 2001.
