KARMA

 

Karma came together in Kalgoorlie in the early ’70s with Marie Klaassen on vocals, Brian Davidson on vocals and guitar, Peter Nelson on vocals and guitar, Tom Birch on bass, and Wendell Parnell on drums. They’d occasionally head to Perth to play at the Waldorf and Gobbles nightclubs. After some lineup changes, including the addition of Mark Verschuer (ex-Bakery), the band headed east, performing in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne.

While in Melbourne, they recorded their first single on the Sunshine label, ''Iron Fisted Woman / Jane'', in 1973, produced by former Playboys drummer Graham Trottman. Their second single, ''Over and Over'' was recorded in Brisbane with Davidson, Nelson, and Parnell joined by Steve Ramm on bass and John Watson on keyboards. Neither single made the charts, and after months of touring the east coast, the band returned west. More lineup changes followed before they finally called it a day in 1978.
