ANDY UPTON

Andy Upton was the lead singer of South Australian group Brandee. He later went on to a solo career with three singles all released through Wizard Records that included ''Rainbow World'' recorded in 1976, ''It Took Me Many Years'' (recorded at Pepper Studios) in 1977 and ''Stop in the Name of Love'' (recorded at Armstrong's Melbourne with backing vocals by Marcia Hines and Mona Lisa). It reached #1 in Adelaide and got knocked off by Paul McCartney's 'Mull of Kintyre', Andy hosted the popular Countdown series for the (ABC) on three occasions in Molly Meldrum's absence.

He was the writer and original singer of the 'Here's Humphrey' song, and he was a well-known jingle writer, penning such commercials as the 'Where do you hide your Coolabah?' which was the launch for wine casks in Australia, and possibly the world. Andy worked at 5KA in the 80's as jingle writer and was an on-air DJ at 5AU (Port Augusta) for a period of approx 6 months. After being disillusioned with the rock industry Andy turned his hand to kid's music and released an album 'A Child At Heart' in 1978. Fed up with the entire music scene, Andy stood down from recording or performing for near on 20 years but made a return in early 2002. He performed with the Adelaide-based band The Boys, as their frontman, during a December 2018 event, Jim Slade's Baby Boomers Rock Adelaide.
