Lead singer Derek Fitton immigrated from England in 1965. He joined a local Sydney band called The Syndicate who played at the local Narrabeen surf club every Friday or Saturday night and also the Blue Note disco in Brookvale. Meeting Nat Kipner, Fitton was offered an audition as a solo singer. Some demo tapes were made with Fitton and Kipner's son’s band, Steve and The Board at the Festival studios in Sydney. The demos were done to get TV exposure, however Fitton didn’t wish to be a solo singer, so he went looking for a band. Fitton found a band playing in Willoughby, whom had only been together for a short time.
He approached them and they were quite interested and so after a couple of rehearsals they knew they were great together. The band ended up being called Derek’s Accent, mainly because all the band members had broad Northern English accents. The band released, "Ain’t Got No Feelin’" backed by "That Is Life To-day" on the short lived Downunder label in 1966. Needing to promote the single the band decided not to leave their day jobs. This created problems. The group did do a few gigs, one at Wagga & some TV shows such as Be My Guest, Saturday Date & Blind Date. The group disbanded in 1966 with Fitton joining The Gino Affair which morphed into The Affair sharing vocals with Kerrie Biddell .
