JERRY DORSEY
His original name was Terry Laffy, and he had his own show in the early 60s performing under the stage name Terry Holden. Terry performed nearly 300 shows on In Melbourne Tonight before entertaining in Vietnam to Aussie and American Troops. He ran a large hotel in Kuala Lumpur, before returning to Australia and performing under the name Jerry Dorsey. He had the name change around 1968 as rock n roll had taken over and, in his words, "When I got back from Asia I couldn't get arrested". He signed on with the Astor and in 1969 released a single, ''It Doesn't Mean A Thing / Snow'' both sides being written by Ricky May. The single was released on the Pye label in New Zealand and to promote it he appeared on ABC TV's Hit Scene. Dorsey also appeared on Bandstand. He was married to Dawn Dixon who was also a Channel Nine singer. Sadly, he is no longer with us. He died at the young age of 52.
