A British-influenced rock combo, who were based in Sydney between 1970-73. Most of the members came out of a band called The Wheelbarrow who was a relatively unknown suburban band who in 1969 decided to record a tribute to Dame Zara Holt on the Spin label. (Holt had a lonely hearts column in a Sydney newspaper at the time). The single faded into obscurity. A couple of lineup changes and adding Harry Young on vocals their music veered from pop to light rock with lots of light harmonies. They held a residency at the Coogee Bay Hotel playing six nights a week.
Their first single, ''San Bernadino'', a cover by UK band Christie was released on the Du Monde label in 1970 that had moderate success. Their next single release is the song they are best remembered for today. ''The Wheat In The Field'' accompanied with lush strings and a beautiful arrangement highlighted just how good a singer Harry Young was. It reached the top 30 in Sydney. This single was also released in NZ. Their final single ''Paper Girl'' went nowhere, and the band called it a day. Tony Mitchell went on to join Sherbet. In 2009 Du Monde released the compilation album 'Recollections' a combination of never heard before live tracks plus their studio releases. Harry Young died in 2023.
