PAT CARROLL

Pat Carroll (born 1946 in Melbourne) is an Australian singer from the 1960s/70s. Carroll began her entertainment career at age eight when she started taking singing and dancing lessons. Appearances on children's TV shows followed by the time she was eleven years old. She continued by appearing in musical comedy shows such as Carnival and Bye Bye Birdie. This led to appearing on national Australian pop TV shows such as Brian Henderson's Bandstand and The Go!! Show when in her mid-teens. Her first 45 single "He's My Guy / He Loves You Too" was released on the W&G label in 1964 when she was 18. From 1964 to 1966 she recorded at least seven singles and a couple of EPs most of which failed to chart. She toured South Vietnam in 1965 as part of the Federal Government's entertainment package to support the troops fighting there. A total of 12 bases and 17 concerts.

In 1966 Carroll would move to the UK and link up with her old friend Olivia  Newton-John. The two formed a duo called Pat and Olivia and toured nightclubs in Europe. (In one incident, they were booked at Paul Raymond's Revue in Soho, London, and were unaware that it was a strip club until they began to perform onstage dressed primly in frilly, high-collared dresses.) After Carroll's visa expired she was forced to return to Australia, Newton-John remained in Britain to pursue solo work. Carroll would eventually marry ex-Strangers member, John Farrar.

Signed to the newly formed Fabel label she recorded her most successful single in Australia, a cover of Dana's 1970 Eurovision winner "All Kinds of Everything" which charted in the top 40. In the same year, Farrar quit the Strangers and with Carroll, returned to London. During 70s and 80s, she often sang backing vocals on Olivia Newton-John's albums. She currently lives in Malibu (USA) with husband John Farrar.
