THE 5

Although short-lived, The 5 were one of the most distinctive groups to come from Brisbane in the mid 60s. Front man Ronnie Williams seemed to always sing with his arms folded in front of him. They formed at the end of 1964 and gained initial exposure on Brisbane's Countdown television music programme. In September 1965 they supported blues duo Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee on their Australian tour. In October 65 they released their first single on the Sunshine label featuring two of Ronnie's compositions, ''I'll Be There / How Can She Know''. It sold well in Brisbane and Melbourne. It was followed by two more singles that didn't impact on the charts. The band appeared on Melbourne's Go!! Show along with the Bee Gees and Bobby and Laurie. They disbanded at the end of 1966.
