THE CHANGING TIMES

Formed in 1964 as The Beachcombers, they changed their name to The Changing Times in 1965. They were very popular on the Melbourne live band scene and played at the top disco at the time; Pinocchios. In 1965 they signed with RCA records and recorded their first single ''I'm Goin' Away / Mary Lou''. The B side ''Mary Lou'' peaked at #7 on the Melbourne charts. This was followed by ''It Ain't So / Wonderful, Wonderful''.

They were the support act on the Cilla Black and Freddie and The Dreamers tour in 1965. The group disbanded not long after when Alan Walker and Willy Fehres moved to QLD. In early 1966 the band reformed with Alex Kadell on vocals and bass, Jenny Johnston on keyboards, Lyn Thomas on guitar and Alan Elliot on drums. The new line-up had no successful recordings, but they were still popular on the live scene. Gary Young and Wayne Duncan, later of Daddy Cool joined in 1967 but they disbanded soon after when Johnston and Kadell formed The Dream (later The New Dream). Allan Edgell James died in 1990. Barry Gallagher died in 2005. Wayne Duncan died in 2016.
