The Iguana were a Melbourne group that formed from the Sands of Time and The Contours in 1967. They had four singles, plus an EP that combined two of their 45s. Their first single, ''Imagine This / Dreaming Away To Myself'' was produced by Pat Aulton on Festival’s four track. Their second single was a great version of The Fifth Dimension's ''California My Way'' which made the top ten in Melbourne and nationally at #36. The band toured throughout Victoria and interstate and appeared on TV. Peter Saunders was drafted into the Army and was replaced by Russell McGregor. The band seems to have broken up around 1969.

Did Iguana do "the lion sleps tonight"
ReplyDeleteNo they didn't. Dove (1976) and The Love Machine (1972) released it as a single.
ReplyDeleteNice work Kimbo, we only released 4 singles and split to join other bands
ReplyDeleteCleve had bands in Brisbane, Graham join New Dream, Gary L had bands in Melbourne, Gary S toured troops Vietnam during the war, Russell joined Sydney Opera Company, 1st drummer Peter drafted into Viet war. We still all catch up.

DeleteHi, did the band ever play in Geelong at Centenery Hall, Corio/Norlane in the late 60's? I have a drumstick from a band and every time I think of it, the name Iguana comes to mind. I see that one of the band members has put up some info on here, so thought they might remember if they played there. Was the band in "The Battle of the Sounds"?
