KNIEVEL

Wayne Connolly had been a fixture of the Sydney scene in the late ’80s, distinguishing himself as a member of such combos as John Kennedy’s Love Gone Wrong, The Welcome Mat, and Fragile. He formed Knievel with Tracy Ellis (bass) and Nick Kennedy (drums) in 1994. They released their first album on the Murmer label in 1995, followed by three more albums between 1997 and 2002: 'Steep Hill Climb', 'The Name Rings A Bell That Drowns Out Your Voice' and 'No One's Going To Understand In My Way'.

Later adding Tim Kevin, the four band members had an enduring musical chemistry, but each had played extensively in other projects over the years; Tim Kevin played in Youthgroup, La Huva, Hoolahan, The Exiles, Jim Moginie and the Family Dog; Nick had a long list of credits, playing with Jack Ladder; touring Europe with The Dead Sea; and appearing in 41 Drums by Nick Zinner at the Sydney Festival. They also played the Big Day Out in 1999 and 2011. Knievel played locally and abroad alongside acts such as Luna, Teenage Fanclub, Big Heavy Stuff, Death Cab for Cutie and The Pernice Brothers.
