MARGARET HOOPER

 

Margaret Hooper, born in 1939, grew up in Blackheath, NSW. Margaret won many talent quests since she was two years old when they put her on a soapbox to reach the microphone on her first radio show. When she was 15, she performed two songs ''Mighty Like A Rose'' and ''Ave Maria'' to world-famous Gladys Moncrieff who commented that "she has a lovely natural voice, nice and even." Margaret was one of the earliest female pop singers signed by Festival Records for its subsidiary label Rex. Margaret released several singles on Rex Records. Later she appeared on Bandstand and Six O'Clock Rock. Her song ''You're Free To Go'' found its way on to the 'Banstand's Swinging Sweethearts' compilation album released in 2000.
