Before Powderfinger kicked opened the door for QLD bands there was Pangaea a punk and metal band from Brisbane. Wildly tipped as the hot new band from the north, they were formed by bassist Ben Ely, drummer Dave Atkins and guitarist Jim Sinclair when they met at Cleveland High School. Their first gig was supporting Screamfeeder and Dream Killers at the Post Office Tavern in George St. In 1993 they recorded the mini album 'Serpent Fire' followed by the EP 'Raggacore' in 1994. The band played at The Big Day Out in 1996. Pangaea was highly active in the Brisbane music scene before Ely shifted his focus to Regurgitator. They released their debut album 'Friebentos' in 1997. The 23 track album took five years to make. Sinclair left due to Ely's involvement with Regurgitator and was replaced by Paul Bromley (ex-George). The original lineup reformed in 2011. Dave Atkins would later form Resin Dogs.
