COLIN BUCKLEY

Born in England Colin Buckley emigrated to Australia in 1948 with his mother and sister settling in Melbourne. Mainly known for his good looks and his Roy Orbison sounding voice, Colin fronted The Lee-Dalls who played regularly at the Coburg Town Hall and during this time they managed to secure a record deal with the W&G label before he went solo. His first single release was ''Love Bug Blues / My Baby Calls'' on the W&G label in 1962 with his old band mates backing him. Moving to the RCA label he released a few more singles with ''Hand Jive'' being the most successful. His last recording was in 1967 with ''Thirteen Women / Blood From A Stone''. During this time, he appeared on the Go!! Show and Jimmy Hannan's show Jimmy. He later went into cabaret in the early seventies.

  1. High Street Preston lil ol' Melbourne Victoria may sound like a very simple and strange place to state that this was the center of the Rock and Roll revolution of the late 50's and early 60's in Australia but there ain'ta no doubt it sure was! Artists who were never known world wide and will be of course forever unknown because they were Aussie's and are completely forgotten today were working four to five nights a week in the pumping venues all along High Street Preston with some of the best muso's and bands to ever walk on stage. Buckley was one of the best of them. Went on to a multitude of national TV shows, hit records with RCA, then simply got forgotten and disappeared. Yep, mainly coz the yank (unknown wankas just about all of them) performers who drifted into the Melbourne venues always got the highest billing, no matter who they were or what they had achieved back in the good ol' USA. If your still out there and you were up on stage in those days, in the Melbourne clubs and pubs please leave a comment. If you know of any of those artists such as, Buckley, Pat Carrol, Johnny Chester, Betty McQuade, please say hello. XXX

    1. Agree mate. Second rate yanks who got top billing because we were infatuated with them because of Hollywood etc. Most of our performers blew them off the stage.
