ELAINE McKENNA

Petite singer Elaine McKenna was born in Melbourne in 1937. She was working as a receptionist when she auditioned on GTV-9 in 1956. After this successful audition she became known for her television appearances throughout the 1950s and 1960s, particularly in Melbourne where she was a regular on Melbourne's Tarax Show, The BP Super Show and Graham Kennedy's In Melbourne Tonight. For her television work, McKenna won the Logie for Most Popular Female Vocalist at the 1961 Logie Awards. Recording for the W&G label her first single ''Tammy'' charted in 1961. This was followed by an EP.

Although the couple had planned to get married at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne during the Australian summer, they were married in Texas in October 1963. McKenna continued her singing career in the USA working all over the country. The couple returned to Australia, but the date is unknown. She was also an actress, known for A Test of Love (1984), Prisoner (1979) and Carson's Law (1983). She died in 1992.
