By 17 Ray Burton was appearing in Lee Gordon’s many legendary rock’n’roll shows at the Sydney Stadium in Rushcutters Bay. In 1961 he joined the Dave Bridge Quartet as a rhythm guitarist. After leaving that band he formed instrumental band The Telstars in Sydney with drummer Sunny Pratt (ex Vibratones), rhythm guitarist Bob Van Eckeres and a bass player whose name is forgotten. 'Reef Ride’ was the most successful reaching #1 in Switzerland.
