ROLAND STORM

Roland Storm was born Roland Michael Hillcote in Rockhampton, QLD in 1942, and began his musical education at an early age. He started piano lessons at just four years old and later became a choirboy at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney.  As his career developed, Roland appeared on popular television programs including The Johnny O’Keefe Show, Teen Time and Sing, Sing, Sing. He also fronted The Statesmen, the resident band at the Coogee Surf Club, recording several singles with the group in 1963 and 1964.

During the mid-1960s, Roland pursued a solo career and released singles on the In record label. He later had a brief stint with vocal group The Magnificent Males, who recorded the single ''Mood Matcher / Are You Getting Any Love?'' in 1968. Roland’s musical foundation was strengthened by formal classical training in both voice and piano, including seven years at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. This training provided a strong foundation for a performing career that stretched from the 1960s into the new millennium. Over the decades, Roland Storm built an enduring following, becoming a favourite with audiences in some 25 countries around the world.

  1. I saw him entertaining yesterday at Avoca Beach Bowling Club. He is now aged 80 and said he is about to retire from the stage by March 2023. His voice and personality is as great as ever and he loves appearing with his best mate Lucky Starr who is usually the MC. We Seniors, absolutely loved the 2 hour cabaret and sang out hearts out during the chorus. Liz
